LacKamp, Jonathan P.

Jonathan P. LacKamp concentrates his litigation practice in the defense of aircraft manufacturers and operators, aerial applicators, and insurance companies against contract and liability claims in state and federal court.  As a lawyer-pilot, he also understands the importance of administrative law expertise when defending against FAA and NTSB Airman enforcement actions under FAR Parts 43, 61, 67, and 91 or arguing for exemptions under Part 107 or 49 USC 44807 Exemptions for UAS operators.

Notable wins include:

  • Successful trial defense of an aviation manufacturer against a negligence claim resulting in a jury verdict of 0% liability and $0 in damages for the client.
  • Successful lien enforcement and foreclosure on a commercial jet aircraft to secure payment for an aviation maintenance provider.
  • Successful prosecution of an Airport Improvement Plan (AIP) Grant Assurance Part 13 complaint to a “Zero-Pay” status in support of airport tenants suffering economic discrimination by a state-operated airport Sponsor.

Mr. LacKamp also assists with private and public airfield land use and development solutions, Part 135 Certification issues, business entity planning, and aircraft purchase and sale agreements.

While at law school Mr. LacKamp was a staff member and published comment author on the UMKC Law Review; interned for the Western District of Missouri federal court; worked in-house counsel at an international aerospace manufacturer specializing in ITAR/EAR, environmental compliance, and defense contracting; and served in the Prosecutor’s Office in Platte County Missouri.

During his professional aviation career, Mr. LacKamp operated an Embraer 170-175 jet as a Part 121 Captain throughout North America and the Caribbean. Prior to that he worked as a helicopter Production Test Pilot performing acceptance and engineering test flights for a major aerospace manufacturer for U.S. and foreign military sales.

He also serves as a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Army Reserve where he is currently the project manager for an enterprise-level application in development with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU).  He is rated Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in the C-12V King Air and PIC /MTP (Maintenance Test Pilot) in CH-47D/F Chinook helicopters. His military experience includes multiple overseas combat and leadership assignments, aviation maintenance management, and investigation of aviation mishaps. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

He lives in the Kansas City area with his lovely wife and two mischievous children.
