It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our longtime partner, Joe Whisler. He was a great friend and colleague to us all and his larger than life presence will be sorely missed. Joe B. Whisler was an attorney and shareholder with the firm from 1986-2017. His practice was in civil litigation with a focus on aviation and environmental law. He was involved in extensive environmental litigation at Boston Logan, San Francisco International, Los Angeles International, Denver Stapleton, and Kansas City International Airports.

His 44 years of litigation and trial experience included first chair experience in the areas of Environmental – Insurance Coverage and CERCLA/RCRA, Aviation Wrongful Death, Breach of Contract – Business and Commercial, Vehicular Wrongful Death, Violations of Trade Secrets Act, Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Bankruptcy – Adversary Proceedings, Shareholder Disputes, Employment Contracts, and Federal Disability.

Mr. Whisler completed Dispute Resolution Training at the University of Missouri School of Law and was listed as a mediator on the U.S. District Court EAP list. He mediated cases involving many disparate issues such as automobile wrongful death, prisoners rights, labor contracts, and aviation products liability.

Mr. Whisler served as Vice-President of The Missouri Bar (2002-2003), President Elect (2003-2004) and President (2004-2005). He also served as a member of The House of Delegates of The American Bar Association, representing The Missouri Bar.

Mr. Whisler was admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Mr. Whisler first became involved with aviation as a member of the Board of Editors of the Journal of Air Law and Commerce at Southern Methodist University from 1970 – 1972. He was founder and first chairman of the Aviation Law Committee for the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri and served on the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar, a 43-member board administering the practice of law for 26,000+ Missouri attorneys.
